Thin Thursday: What the....

So, I quit Weight Watchers, remember?

As of this morning, I've bumped up my losses to 10 pounds. Perhaps it has something to do with having one less thing to stress about and less time to eat. Or all the extra moving from packing? Or less stress eating from waiting to close? Or a lack of appetite both from the heat and lack of junk in our house? The ridiculous amount of fluids I've been drinking because of the heat? Have I just melted away?

Could it be because I'm knitting more? This may sound silly, but I knit when I want to lose weight. You can eat while doing many crafts- knitting isn't one of them.

WBH has also lost some weight in the last few days, doing the fence building at the new place and downing water like a mad man. I don't know what it is that's done it, but I'll take it. I'm really happy with this development and am going to work on keeping it up.

By the way, you guys rock on the recipe thing! Thank you so much! It looks like we'll have a stove sooner than expected, but I will without a doubt be trying the recipes and books you've suggested. You are awesome!

Thin Thursday: Late again

This week was a rough one. Stinky started the meeting two weeks ago by yelling at me, and we left ten minutes later, when he decided to steal Weight Watcher's food and slap me when I made him take it back. (The twos are going to kill me). I didn't get much out of the meeting. WBH is teaching one last week of summer school, and Stinky will be attending summer school with his dad while I attend meetings, and then the two guys get to hang out together after next week. I was up .4 this week. Not really a big deal. I wasn't fantastic about tracking, and it's hot, which can lead to water retention. Sitting in glorious solitude in this week's meeting, we discussed ways to get through today's festivities. Three things my leader mentioned really stuck out to me, and helped me get through today. First, she said that one member had an idea that she loved (and if she endorses it, I'll jump on the wagon!), where on holidays and holidays ONLY, she counts all fruits and veggies as 0-point foods, and fills up on them. I hit the watermelon hard today!

She suggested that we consider switching the day our points reset to Saturdays. Many events are on Saturdays, and having the weekly points all available to you at the start of the weekend can keep you from going crazy. I switched it today, and I'm proud to say that I only used 10.5 weekly points today, minus those fruits and veggies that don't count on holidays.

Finally, she shared a cake recipe, low in points and SO good. I made this for our celebrations today, and it's just too good not to share.

1 can (12 oz) of diet soda ( colas or root beer for chocolate, lemon-lime for a light cake)
1 cake mix- I used cherry chip.

Mix and bake as directed. Simple, right? The cake is pretty dense and oh so yummy. For the frosting, I mixed a container of fat-free, sugar-free cool whip with a sugar-free package of white chocolate pudding. I spread that over the cake and covered it with halved strawberries. One 8th of the cake and frosting is 6, If you divide it by 12 (like cupcakes!), it's just 4 points. It's so yummy.

I hope your 4th has been amazing! I'm hacking away at my de-stashing crafts. What are you up to today?

Thin Thursday: The Return

I gained and gained for two weeks, and that's not something you want to post for the whole wide world to see. So I didn't, but here it is. I gained 3 pounds. Then I almost cried, but didn't. Instead, I sat, and pouted through the meeting. Then I started tracking again. Why do I let myself off the hook for tracking? I gain everytime I start slacking.

So this week, I lost 2.4 pounds. There were two days I didn't track at all, so I could have done better, honestly. I said to myself that I wanted those three pounds gone by today. I didn't quite make it, but I will gladly take 2.4 lost pounds.

I have a little over 3 weeks until my brother's wedding. I would really love to reach a certain number by then (stop bring nosey, I won't tell you), but it's 6.8 pounds away. I think I can do that. That's only 5 ounces a day or so, or two and a quarter pounds each week- a healthy and reasonable goal. It would also mean I'd lost almost 14 pounds, and that is something I'd be proud to say.

This week:
  • I will track, track, trackety-track every little thing.
  • I will earn 20 activity points (this may sound like a lot, but I just calculated that one practice conservatively estimated at 90 minutes could earn me 11 points)
  • I will drink the reccommended amounts of water each day and limit the Diet Dr. Peppers to 1-2. Yes, it's been more than that, lately.

It's going to be a good week, and next Thursday, I'm going to hit 5% lost.

Thin Thursday on Friday

Down 2.4, twice what I gained last week. If you're curious about the crazy up-and-down that has been my weight loss progression, I have lost 7.6 pounds in 10 weeks. I can now comfortably button my jeans straight from the laundry, and I fit adorably into my bridesmaid's dress for my brother's wedding. I am wearing it to chaperone prom in this weekend, so not a moment too soon!

I wish it was more, but I'm proud that I'm continuing to lose. I tracked like crazy last week, and asked WBH to keep me accountable. So, I'm continuing the tracking trend. I have 3 practices to make next week, and I'm hoping to get in some family walks as well.

Confession: I hit my tailbone last night at practice, and it required a dose of strawberry milkshake to feel better. I'm just going to pretend that didn't happen and move forward today.

Upcoming challenges: Prom! It's on a boat this year, and I'm a little nervous about the food they'll have- usually a lot of desserts, but hopefully we'll get a fruit tray in there :) Earlier in the day, there's a church potluck too, so I'll be working on hitting those 0 and 1 point veggies before we go.

I also had about 5 inches taken off of my hair. Maybe that will help the scale next week?

Thin Thursday: A little bleh.

Up 1.2. I didn't track, but I went running and gave my all at practice. It's disappointing, but it's clear that I need to be making more of an effort than I have been. Like they say at weight watchers, only track on days when you want to lose weight. I need to remember I'm not doing this for vanity. Working hard at weight watchers is something I can do to help us conceive without medical assistance this fall. I need to remember that's why I'm doing this. The jeans that fit straight from the dryer are just a bonus.

So, I've written down everything so far today. I'm going to keep up with the running on non-practice days. I'm ot going to have any liquid calories this week (because they kicked my tail last week!). I'm going to do this, I'll get back on track, and it will be great. Today is just crappy.

Oh, and thank you very much for your prayers- we got the news this morning that they went with another offer. It's discouraging, but we are glad to know and we will keep moving forward. I just sent our wonderful realtor a list of 10 houses, and we'll be looking again tonight.

Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming.

Thin Thursday: Yee-Haw!

Yee-haw is what I felt like saying when the teensy woman at weight watchers weighed me in today. I was down 3.6! For the record, that's more than I gained back last week. Back on track, baby.

I don't know what worked, because I didn't track well. I did get one of those little points clickers, which allowed for some tracking even if I didn't write much down. That was helpful, and I'm going to be sure to take that with me when writing isn't an option. I really liked it.

So, I need to get to planning and tracking this week, but I'm proud of that progress and really happy with today's news. I needed that. Back to work now.

Thin Thursday: Down 1.2

As Stinky would say "Hooway fo me!" It's nice to see a loss this week after stalling out last week. I'm starting to notice a difference in how my clothes fit. Can you say jeans that I can breathe in, straight from the dryer? I sure can!

The 1.2 pounds lost brings me to a total of 6 pounds in four weeks. Not too shabby. I'd like to speed it up, as it would take me another 5 months to reach what I think is my goal weight at this rate, but it's okay if it takes that long, too. What I really want is to get to my goal weight before the end of the roller derby season in October.

We talked about a walking 5k program Weight Watchers has set up. I've decided to challenge myself even more to run in a 5k in my hometown this summer. It's a level course, and I'll be downloading the Couch to 5K podcast tonight.

What worked this week: I tracked everything on paper. Writing it down seems to work better for me than tracking online. I think it solidifies it in my head a little more. Also, I found myself asking "What do I want more?" As in, do I want to stress eat after being asked if I was pregnant at church (because apparently my dress made me look like it, thank you very much), or do I want to eat a small lunch so I can really enjoy Mom's Easter dinner? Do I want to eat laffy taffy, or do I want to have a good loss this week that will give me momentum for the next week? Priorities. They're working for me.

What I plan to work on: Planning my meals for the day ahead of time, starting with dinner (because that's my favorite meal).

Thin Thursday: Down 1

I'm down one more pound for a total of 4.8 pounds in two weeks. Not too shabby, last weekend's eating out excesses considered. I'm looking forward to saying that I've lost five pounds! My pants are much more comfortable now! I can't wait to hit my five pound mark at the next meeting.

What's working: I really blew it this weekend. We ate out a few times, and I didn't track or make good choices. However, I treated the rest of the week as though I had used all of my flex points (an extra calorie allowance we're alotted to use where we choose), and it kept me on track pretty well. And cooking at home! It makes a big difference to know what I'm putting in my food and controlling portions.

Also, a beautiful side effect of this program is that since I'm not eating when bored, to distract myself from the impulse, I clean. My house looks better, I feel better, and the weight is coming off. Win-win-win.

What's not working: not writing things down enough, missing practices. My first week, I took advantage of every opportunity to be active- three practices, two walks, and a trip to the inflatable playhouse. I need to get back to this.

I really love these meetings- they help so much. I'm looking forward to what this week will bring!

Thin Thursday: Down 3.8

i'm down 3.8 pounds this week. I am really happy about that. I used ALL of my weekly points, and half of the activity points I earned. However, I got all of the activity in that I planned on. I've been downing Crystal Light, which helped with my water intake. However, with tracking, I've seen that I'm not getting anywhere near enough fruits and veggies in. This week was a little nuts just with NOT eating whatever I wanted and writing it all down. I need to focus this week on making better choices in place of just reducing.

Did I mention that I can button my jeans comfortably? Because that's pretty cool.

My WW goals this week are:
Derby: 2 practices, plus the bout on Sunday.
Exercise: Two half-hour walks and maybe swimming with Stinky and Littlest Sister this weekend.
Food: Increase fruits and vegetables

Thin Thursday: First Weight Watchers Meeting

I'm glad I went. I have a way to go, but I am very glad I went. This isn't my first time doing the program, but I know it works when I follow it. I'm at the weight I was at just before I got pregnant in 2006. It was my highest weight ever. I'm not happy about it, but it is what it is, and I'm there because I want to do something about it.

The first week of Weight Watchers is a little nuts. You adjust and remember what portion sizes are supposed to look like, and you learn to recognize when you are and aren't really hungry. It just takes a while.

I am glad I went, but things do feel a little overwhelming if I think too hard about it.

Goals this week:
  • do the re-framing worksheet and post it on the fridge.
  • attend three practices, and go walking twice before the next meeting.
  • plan menus until next meeting

Think positive thoughts for me? I've got a blog in the works for tomorrow.
